On Saturday, December 15, 2001, at 6:00pm, the doors of Sharon
High School Gym opened to the public for the much-anticipated return of the
Harlem Rockets, a comedy basketball team to take on the Sharon 'ALL' Stars. Team
members included Sharon teachers, administrators, policeman, students, as well
as local officials such as: District Attorney William Keating, and our State
Senator Brian Joyce, former New England Patriot's Roland James, and Steve
Grogan.
Alice Hui owner of Mandarin Taste in Sharon was there to
support Sharon students with special education needs. Alice not only organized
the food sales, served the food, but at the end of the event announced to the
Sharon Special Education Parent Advisory Counsel Committee members that she was
donating all of the proceeds to benefit SSEPAC.
SSEPAC uses the funds to sponsor workshops that raise awareness, and educate the
community, about the uniqueness of every child.
In addition, SSEPAC gives two scholarships each year to high school students,
has purchased Alpha smarts for all of the elementary schools, purchases books
& tapes for it's resource library located in the High school, and has an
Appreciation Awards evening, that recognizes any individual, who has done
something unique, and made a positive impact on a child with special needs.
Alice Hui moved to Sharon and opened Mandarin Taste in 1989.
Since that time she has absorbed herself in community service. If there is
a fund-raiser or an event at a school, church, synagogue, library and the like,
you can count on Alice to help. Alice's philosophy is “you should give
back to the community; they support you and you support them. I like to
give.”
Alice we are grateful to have you in our community!
