SSEPAC Meeting 4/3/01

Meeting called to order 7:10

Secretary's Report

Minutes were accepted as read

Treasurer's Report

$850 was netted from the bulb fundraiser. Bank balances were Checking $1643.18, Savings $1731.26.

Bulbs will be delivered Friday and distributed to the schools prior to vacation.

Superintendent's Meeting

3/14/01: Dr. La Grasta held a superintendents meeting regarding MCAS. Voted to sign the petition for exemption. Waiting to find out if the state can withhold funding from the schools. Will ask for 7 modular classrooms for the fall. 4 at the middle school to accommodate the 6th graders who will be at the middle school and the relocation of students due to the remodeling at Cottage. Other modulars are for heights. Add grades 1 & 3 at heights and east and a 1st at cottage. Pushing for an override to avoid cuts in language, etc.

PPS Meeting

Discussed the Alpha Smarts we donated to the schools. Each school received one for the special education department. A book on autism was purchased in the memory of Joyce Feeley which is being placed in the resource library.

Meeting with Judith Freedberg regarding making CHARMS more a part of inclusion at East. Rick Sprague expressed desire to get a grant to set up a buddy program.

PPS Director search

A candidate was recommended to the school committee and a candidate who could serve as an interim director was also recommended for the committee to interview.

Appreciation Awards

April 24, 2001 from 7-9 pm at the Middle School Auditorium. Pauline Stratis is in charge of hospitality.

Next Years Programming

We want to form committees to do the various tasks. Workshops and program development, fundraising & open houses, newsletters & public relations, library, web site, disability awareness & community education,

Scholarships

We are giving two $250 scholarships to graduating HS students.
