Minutes of August 10, 1999 MeetingHeld at Sharon Public Library, 7-9 PMMeeting called to order at 7:10 PM Present are: Suzanne Peyton, Lee Berkowitz, Mark Baron, Ami Zakai, Anat Zakai, Cheryl Weinberg, Steve Marx, Stacey Simons, Amy Levitan, Alan Bloom. Secretary's ReportMinutes of the July meeting read by Suzanne Peyton. Accepted. Treasurer's ReportSavings: $2,166.79 Checking: $951.91 Old BusinessBullying and Teasing workshop on October 5 at the Middle School. Inclusion Task Force. Discussed the inclusion letter to Dr. LaGrasta. Special Education reform is put off until March 2000 pending the legislature completing its Maximum Feasible Benefit review. Some items in 766 have been changed to default to the Federal standard (IDEA). The requirement that school systems prepare a three year plan have been rescinded. Put on hold for future vote was the proposal that public schools no longer be required to provide services to children covered by an IEP who attend private schools. Massachusetts ranks 45th out of the 50 states in educational funding. Other items in the proposed Education Reform were discussed. New BusinessSSEPAC has received a $200.00 grant from the Mass. Advocacy Center to help disseminate news regarding Special Education reform. We will use first class mail to send out the information. Dates of meetings and workshops confirmed through January 2000. It was suggested that SSEPAC form a joint presentation with the Gifted and Talented committee. There is a great basis for consensus of the two groups and their goals are really common to a great extent. Inclusion benefits all students. CHARMSS has been renamed Charms. Program schedule was accepted as proposed. Other BusinessNext meeting is September 9 at the Sharon Middle School Library, 7 PM. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM |
