SSEPAC NewsletterDecember 2000On January 23, the Sharon Special Education Parent Advisory Council will be holding a workshop titled, 2001:Special Education Odyssey, that will help clear up the mysteries of the new special education regulations. It will be held at the Sharon Middle School auditorium from 7 to 9 PM. Please call 784-8316 to pre-register so there will be enough handouts. The Lions Club will be accepting donations of old prescription glasses at the workshop. The snow date for this workshop is January 30. This April 24, SSEPAC will be holding its annual Recognition and Appreciation Awards evening. These awards are specifically intended to recognize any individual who has done something unique that made a positive impact on your child. They are meant for any individual, whether it is a teacher, coach, bus driver, police officer, or any other ordinary citizen. Nominations can come from any family in Sharon that has a child with special needs, whether or not they are on an IEP. The nominee can come from outside Sharon. This event will take place at the Sharon Middle School auditorium starting at 7:00 PM. To nominate an individual, please furnish their name, the specific event that triggered the nomination, an address or phone number to reach this person, and your phone number. SSEPAC will retain your anonymity if you wish, but may need to call you with any questions regarding your nomination. Please mail your nomination to: SSEPAC, 1 School Street, Sharon, MA 02067. The deadline for nominations is March 10, 2001. It’s very important to note that this event is not meant to be a popularity contest, but rather an opportunity to recognize a specific positive act. Call 784-8316 with any questions. Do you have concerns about your child and are confused about what you can do? There is an abundance of information available to help parents negotiate their way through the special education process, but sometimes it helps to know where to start. SSEPAC, in collaboration with Sharon’s Department of Pupil Personnel Services, will be furnishing an introductory outline which will help guide you through the first few important steps. This will be available soon. However, please call SSEPAC at 784-8316, or the Department of Pupil Personnel Services at 784-1563, if you need immediate help. For current information, please check out SSEPAC’s web site at: www.sepac.org/sharon/ . If you are planning to shop on Amazon.com, please use the link on SSEPAC’s web site. SSEPAC can raise extra money with every purchase using the link, and it won’t cost you any extra. Mark Baron and Susan Linehan- SSEPAC Co-Presidents |
